Joseph Ballstaedt is joining Tingey Ballstaedt Finlay after running his solo practice, Traverse Law Firm, for the past few years. Prior to his solo venture, Joseph worked as a Senior Associate at Skoubye Nielson & Johansen LLC. Before that, he practiced law at the Idaho-based firm Racine, Olson, Nye & Budge, Chartered.

Earlier in his career, Joseph clerked in the Seventh Judicial District of Idaho for the Honorable Judge Gregory W. Moeller, who is now an associate justice of the Supreme Court of Idaho. During law school, Joseph gained valuable experience through externships with the Honorable Chief Justice Christine M. Durham of the Supreme Court of Utah and the Honorable Chief Judge Ted Stewart in the United States District Court of the District of Utah.

Joseph’s legal practice has primarily focused on commercial litigation, including construction law issues, lien enforcement and defense, debt collection and defense, contract disputes, general real estate disputes, and landlord-tenant issues.

In 2010, Joseph graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor in studio arts (drawing and painting) and a minor in English. He then graduated magna cum laude from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU in 2013, where he was a Lead Articles Editor on the Law Review and a legal writing teaching assistant.

Joseph is from Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He and his wife have six children and enjoy running, triathlons, and traveling together.
